Arktisk Meny ('Arctic Menu') is a union of restaurants in Northern Norway, a stamp of quality for local ingredients, of which many of the dining establishments in Vesterålen are members. The close proximity of the ocean's pantry is particularly important for seafood, when it is to be prepared fresh according to traditional or modern recipes. But the natural fruits of agriculture are also an important part of Vesterålen's culinary culture.
Vesterålen most definitely has resources and ingredients suitable for inclusion in a local, seasonally varied menu. Several of the dining establishments in the area have recognized the potential in using short-travelled food items from the fields and forests, from the mountainsides, from the moors, from the rivers and the open ocean.
